Moving & Packing Tips
PACKING TIPS & SUGGESTIONS:
Make your move less stressful with these helpful packing hints from Discount Boxes
of Tampa Bay:
Books
Use small boxes; books are very heavy. Use small magazines to fill in the
sides of the box if there is extra space.
Clothing
Use wardrobe boxes. Move clothing on hangers straight from your closet to
the wardrobe boxes. Pack folded clothing into regular boxes.
Mirrors
Use a 4 piece mirror/picture boxes or use masking tape to place an X across
mirrors or other items that are framed in glass and wrap each item in bubble
wrap. Don’t forget to label them as Fragile!
Art
Wrap each item in bubble wrap and pack into a mirror/picture box. Use newsprint
to fill in the voids around the artwork. Remember to label the item as Fragile!
Electronics
If the original box is not available wrap each piece in bubble wrap and
place individually into double walled electronics boxes or use a dish pack box.
Furniture
Disassemble and place any nuts, bolts, washers, and screws into a Ziploc
bag. Label the bag and tape it to the item it belongs to. Tape or stretch wrap
shut all drawers. Use bubble wrap, newsprint, or furniture pads to wrap and
protect the exposed legs of tables and chairs.
Kitchen
Put heavy items in the bottom of the box. Wrap fragile items in bubble wrap.
Fill bowls with newsprint. Put a layer of bubble wrap or a cellulose pad between
each plate and bowl. Wrap glasses in newsprint or bubble wrap to prevent
breakage.
Appliances
Use newsprint to wrap small appliances and place them in a medium or large
box. Tape the bottom of the box securely. Clean appliances inside and out and
tuck all cords inside the box.
General
Always pack your boxes with heavier items on the bottom and lighter items on
top. Remember that smaller boxes are usually lighter and easier to carry. Pack
boxes tightly to avoid shifting and breakage.
